Sports Inductry Awards 2009

Castrol’s UEFA Euro 2008 tournament sponsorship has been short-listed for a Sport Industry Award 2009 in the “Best Sponsorship of a Sport Event or Competition” category. The premium oil brand faces stiff competition from 5 other short-listed entries:

  • Guinness – Guinness Premiership
  • iShares – iShares Cup Extreme 40 Sailing Series 2008
  • Powerade – Official Sports Drink of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games
  • Speedo – 9th FINA Swimming Championships, Manchester 2008
  • Visa – The Visa London 2012 Party

Castrol are hoping to add the Sport Industry Award to the acknowledgement already recieved from the European Sponsorship Association in November 2008 when their same UEFA Euro 2008 activity was nominated International Sponsorship of the Year.

After a steering committee process involving over 50 key industry figures and 40 hours of intensive judging, the list of nominees represents the very best that the sports marketing industry had to offer over the course of 2008. With a substantial year-on-year increase in entries for the Sport Industry Awards, reaching the short-list in itself represents a significant achievement.

The nominees will now go forward to the main judging panel, headed by Chairman and BBC broadcaster John Inverdale, who will decide the winners in each of the 12 award categories. The results will be announced at the Awards ceremony on 30th April in front of 1,400 industry representatives.
